DOT task force to monitor airlines’ response to in-flight sexual assault
The Transportation Department is setting up a task force to monitor airlines’ policies over dealing with sexual misconduct and harassment on flights.
DOT secretary Elaine Chao announced the establishment of the National In-Flight Sexual Misconduct Task Force which will report findings to the Aviation Consumer Protection Advisory Committee.
The Committee’s guidelines were outlined in the latest FAA Reauthorization Act.
"The Task Force will review current practices, protocols and requirements of US airlines in responding to and reporting allegations of sexual misconduct by passengers on board aircraft," the department said in a release.
"It will also provide recommendations to the ACPAC on best practices relating to training, reporting, and data collection regarding incidents of sexual misconduct by passengers."
Members of the task force will be formally announced during the ACPAC’s first meeting in Juanuary 2019.
The task force will review how airlines respond to and report allegations, and will make appropriate recommendations regarding enhanced training and data collection.
