Dozens killed in passenger jet crash
A Boeing 737 exploded on impact at an airport in Russia killing all 50 people on board.
The Tatarstan Airlines flight had taken off from Domodedovo airport in Moscow and was trying to land at Kazan, about 450 miles east of Moscow, when it crashed.
The Foreign Office has confirmed that a British national was on board as well as 43 other passengers and six crew members, reports the BBC.
Investigative committee official Vladimir Markin told Rossiya 24 TV that experts were checking whether poor quality fuel and weather conditions could have been contributing factors.
The aircraft, which has reportedly been in service since 1990, had been attempting a second landing in the city of Kazan, when it crashed.
The airport in Kazan – the capital of Tatarstan – has been closed since the accident and was not expected to re-open until this afternoon.
A total of 53 flights had been cancelled in Kazan’s airport and redirected to other cities like Nizhniy Novgorod, Izhevsk, Nizhnekamsk and Cheboksary.
