Drone display to kick off Florida Keys’ Bicentennial celebrations
An army of 250 drones will illuminate the sky to usher in Florida Keys’ bicentennial celebration.
The aerial show takes place above Truman Waterfront Park on Saturday, March 25.
It is a highlight of the “200 Years of Paradise Kick-off Concert,” a free-admission evening of live music and heritage.
The concert and drone show celebrate the 200th anniversary of the Florida Territorial Legislature’s founding of Monroe County.
Events in the coming months commemorate the bicentennial and two centuries of history.
The drone display showcases visual imagery drawn from Florida Keys history.
Festivities open with a performance by local musician Nick Norman and trop-rock artist Howard Livingston.
Also featured is commentary by local leaders and segments from South Florida PBS’ documentary, ‘The Florida Keys: 200 Years of Paradise.’
Subsequent events include Naval Air Station Key West’s Air Spectacular and a 200th anniversary sea-to-table dinner in Islamorada.
In addition, museum exhibits, art and festivals around the Keys are themed to celebrate the anniversary.
