Drone sighting forces Dubai airport closure
All flights in and out of Dubai International Airport were suspended for about half an hour this morning after a drone was spotted close to the runway.
Thousands of passengers were delayed during the shutdown, which happened between 10.13 and 10.45am local time.
Flights later resumed at the world’s third busiest airport, which has more international passengers than any other.
Scores of flights were cancelled at Gatwick Airport in December due to repeated drone sightings close to its runway. The operator has not been caught.
In the United Arab Emirates, drone owners are now required to register with the country’s General Civil Aviation Authority.
Authorities also ban hobbyists from putting cameras or lasers on their drones and flying in certain areas.
