Drydock worker strike causes Carnival ship cancelation
Carnival Cruise Line has scrapped an upcoming sailing from New Orleans on Carnival Liberty due to a shipyard works’ strike.
The cruise line was stuck in the middle of industrial action by workers at Navantia shipyard in Cadiz, Spain.
Carnival sent an executive to Cadiz to negotiate after some workers ‘detained’ the ship as leverage in their dispute.
The cruise line eventually secured its passage out of the shipyard and has arrived in the Chantier Naval de Marseille shipyard in France where work will be completed.
It has pushed back the completion of work which has forced the line to cancel its next cruise from New Orleans on July 6.
Guests on this seven-day Bahamas cruise have been informed and will receive a full refund and a 100% future cruise credit.
They will also be reimbursed up to $200 for travel costs.
“We were forced to move to a new shipyard to complete our work because of a labor work stoppage at the prior facility. Regrettably, this situation will delay the ship’s departure from Europe. We apologize for this unanticipated disruption to your vacation plans,” the cruise line said.
