Eastern US faces another big freeze
Weather experts are warning that another big freeze will hit the Eastern US next week, but this time it will have more staying power.
According to AccuWeather, early next week will see a polar vortex, with waves of frigid air and strong winds, blasting into the Midwest and much of the East.
Expert senior meteorologist Alex Sosnowski said the advancing cold will be severe enough to bring "life-threatening conditions, hypothermia and the risk of frostbite" to areas from the northern Plains to New England.
Although widespread power outages are not expected, the snowstorm in the Northeast will bring the risk of sporadic power outages as temperatures plummet.
"Temperatures may stay below freezing in Minneapolis, Chicago, Milwaukee, Detroit and Cleveland through the end of the month," he said.
"In Boston, Pittsburgh, Philadelphia, New York City and Indianapolis, temperatures may only surpass the freezing mark on one or two days until January 31."
