EasyJet flight in emergency landing
An EasyJet flight from Edinburgh had to make an emergency landing in Newcastle due to a technical fault.
The Hamburg-bound flight EZY6931 took off at 12.40pm and was met by emergency services at Newcastle 45 minutes later.
Some reports on social media suggested the diversion was due to a burning smell in the cockpit and fumes in the cabin, but this has not been confirmed by the airline.
In a statement, it said: "EasyJet can confirm that flight EZY6931 from Edinburgh to Hamburg on November 28 diverted to Newcastle as a precautionary measure only due to a technical issue.
"The aircraft landed safely and was met by emergency services in line with our procedures.
"The safety of its passengers and crew is easyJet’s highest priority and easyJet operates its fleet of aircraft in strict compliance with all manufacturers’ guidelines.
"We apologise to passengers for the resulting delay."
The airline said passengers received refreshment vouchers and a replacement aircraft was arranged to fly passengers to Hamburg.
