EasyJet to create 120 new jobs
EasyJet is to create 120 jobs at Manchester Airport where it will base a seventh aircraft from next March to support new routes being launched from the northwest.
Chief executive Carolyn McCall hinted to the Manchester Evening News that more aircraft could be added as the airline is looking to increase its presence in the city.
She told the newspaper: "I would say we currently don’t have as strong a presence in Manchester as I would like.
"We have based aircraft there for four or five years now and do some fantastic routes from Manchester already.
"We are very well known in Liverpool and could become much better known in Manchester and it is very important to us to increase our presence here and show out commitment to the city."
McCall said easyJet was committed to grow Manchester over the long term "provided the conditions are right".
Easyjet currently flies to 26 destinations from Manchester and new routes will be announced shortly. The airline also plans to increase frequencies to business cities in order to grow the proportion of business travellers on flights to more than 18%.
