Egypt delays visa price hike
Egypt is more than doubling the cost of a tourist visa from $25 (£20) to $60 (£48) on July 1.
The rise was due to take place from tomorrow, but has been delayed four months at the request of tourist industry leaders, who are warning that the higher charge will further hit tourism to Egypt.
Visitor numbers from the UK have dropped significantly since the Foreign Office imposed a ban on flights to Sharm el Sheikh airport following the downing of a Russian passenger aircraft shortly after take off from the Red Sea airport in 2015.
Philip Breckner of specialist operator Discover Egypt told the Telegraph he understood the reason why Egyptian authorities felt the rise was necessary, but he added: "A family of four will be paying £200 for visas and they might only be paying £2,000 for the holiday, so that’s 10 % of the whole holiday cost."
