Egypt operators on tenterhooks
Egypt: Firms ready to evacuate travellers if the worst happens
Tour operators to Egypt are making emergency plans to evacuate holidaymakers if war breaks out in the Gulf.
As reported by News From Abroad, the Foreign and Commonwealth Office last week told all Britons they should leave Iraq, while advising against non-essential travel to Kuwait and Israel.
While Egypt is not presently on the “danger list”, February is one of the busiest months of the year for travel to Egypt and operators are said to be concerned that the country is close to the potential “conflict zones”.
A spokesperson for Thomson Holidays reportedly told the Sunday Times: “If the Foreign Office advice changes then people will have the option to return straight away, We always have contingency planning for Egypt, especially as we have such an extensive programme there.” More than 375,000 Britons visit Egypt each year.
