Egypt speeds ahead in extreme sports with Cross Egypt motorbike race

Egypt has announced details for its fourth annual ‘Cross Egypt Challenge.’

Marking another step forward as a burgeoning destination for extreme sports, the 3,000km motorbike and scooter endurance race will run from 14 – 22 November 2014.

It sets off from the Mediterranean city of Alexandria and passes through Cairo, stopping at Ain Sokhana, El Gouna and Marsa Alam before traversing the Egyptian Eastern Desert to Aswan and Luxor.

The race then finishes in Cairo under the Great Pyramids of Giza.

The 2014 Challenge is open to all motorbike and scooter riders, and organisers say competitors from 20 international countries have signed up to participate so far.

"Each year we aim to set tougher challenges for the riders, with this year seeing an increase in distance of 600km compared to 2013," said Hadeer El Masry of the Cross Egypt Challenge.

"In doing so riders will tackle city, desert, mountain and oasis terrain while riding through a plethora of Egypt’s famous landmarks."

The Cross Egypt Challenge is sponsored by Egyptian Tourist Authority (ETA) and is the only organized cross-country challenge of its kind in the entire region.

"We continue to receive fantastic support from our partners and riders alike, which has helped in cementing the rally as an annual event," El Masry added.
