Egypt to push alternative Red Sea holiday resorts

Saturday, 14 Jun, 2016 0

The Egyptian Tourism Authority is to re-launch its successful Red Sea Riviera logo for its marketing activities in the UK, as part of plans to extend the Red Sea Riviera brand to other resorts than Sharm el Sheikh.

The logo will be used by the tourism authority and UK tour operators in promotional activities and advertising campaigns for destinations including El Gouna, Hurghada, Sahl Hashish, Makadi Bay, Soma Bay and Marsa Alam.

The logo was first used to promote Sharm in 2004, however, since the downing of a Russian passenger plane over Egypt last year, UK operators have been banned from flying into or out of Sharm airport, causing a dramatic drop in visitors to the resort.

UK tour operators are still waiting to find out when they will be allowed to resume services to Sharm, once one of the most popular winter sun destinations from the UK but now in 35th place.

Rasha Azaizi, UK director of the Egyptian Tourism Authority, said: "The Red Sea Riviera logo was part of Egypt’s most successful tourism advertising campaign in the UK, perfectly capturing the country’s unique promise of both a relaxing and exciting holiday. Extending the Red Sea Riviera brand into the region’s other beach destinations will enable us to put Egypt back in the ‘Riviera League’ of popular international tourist destinations."
