Eilat airport reopens after temporary closure
Eilat airport has reopened after a temporary closure yesterday citing security concerns.
The Israeli military ordered the closure of the airport which serves the tourist resorts and beaches in Eilat yesterday and diverted flights due to land there to Uvda, some 60km (36 miles) away, reported Reuters news agency.
"Due to security assessments, the Israeli army has instructed Eilat airport to cancel all departures and arrivals," a military spokeswoman said.
But a spokewoman confirmed to news agency AFP that the airport has now reopened.
Neighbouring Sinai has become increasingly lawless amid the instability generated by the overthrow of Egyptian President Mohammed Morsi in early July, and Eilat has been targeted in the past by rockets fired by Islamist militants there.
