El Al amongst new Galileo e-ticketing airlines
El Al is one of six airlines to start e-ticketing through Galileo – bringing the total up to 80.
Aerosvit-Ukranian Airlines, Air Tahiti Nui, Kingfisher, China Airlines and Royal Air Maroc are the others.
Galileo claims to be ahead of IATA’s target to have 70% of all tickets electronic by January 2007, with more than 80% of tickets issued so far this year being e-tickets.
The GDS’s UK country manager Patrick Lukan said: “We are well on schedule to help meet IATA’s objective to achieve 100% implementation of e-ticketing worldwide by January 2008.
“E-ticketing has to be the choice for agencies seeking an efficient mechanism for making or amending bookings. There is also a financial benefit with agents and their customers making savings on tickets by avoiding paper ticket charges.
“Our customers tell us that they want the choice of using e-tickets and I am pleased to say that we are delivering on this requirement and once again Galileo is a market leader in this area.”
