Emirates, SIA lose price-fixing plea
SYDNEY – An Australian court has dismissed attempts by Singapore Airlines and Emirates to prevent the Australian competition watchdog from demanding documents in relation to an air freight price-fixing probe.
Singapore Airlines and Emirates had both argued that the documents were outside the jurisdiction of the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission enquiry into an alleged cartel involving international air cargo operations.
The watchdog previously charged six other airlines, including Qantas Airways and British Airways, who were forced to pay huge penalties.
Several parties who claim they were financially penalised by airlines allegedly involved in the price fixing are pursuing a separate class action.
