Energy boss buys Dunk Island
Dunk Island Resort in Far North Queensland will be refurbished and re-launched after being sold to a high net worth investor, believed to be energy boss Peter Bond.
The resort and island was devastated in January when Cyclone Yasi tore through the state’s north
Peter Bond is the chief executive of gas company Linc Energy and is listed in Business Review Weekly’s 2011 rich list with an estimated $570 million of wealth.
The high profile resort formed part of the Hideaway Resorts portfolio.
The other asset in the portfolio, Bedarra Island Resort, was acquired by the Brisbane-based Charlton Hotel Group.
CBRE Hotels’ senior director Wayne Bunz said the Hideaway sale campaign had generated overwhelming interest, with in excess of 160 enquiries from local and offshore groups.
CBRE Hotels was this week appointed to sell Club Med Lindeman Island in the Whitsundays in early 2012.
