Etihad launching flights to San Francisco
UAE national flag carrier Etihad Airways will start flights to San Francisco, its sixth confirmed US destination from November 18.
The route will be operated by three-class Boeing 777-300ER aircraft with eight first class, 30 business class and 308 economy class seats.
Etihad already operates to New York, Chicago, Washington, Los Angeles and beginning in December, to Dallas.
Flight EU183 will depart from Abu Dhabi at 2:15 am and arrive in San Francisco at 6:30, with the return service leaving SFO at 8:30 am for Abu Dhabi.
The carrier has made a big play for the US market in recent months, adding frequencies on established routes and become the official airline partner of Major League Soccer.
James Hogan, CEO of Etihad Airways expects strong demand from both business and leisure travelers on the new route.
"The United States has been placed at the heart of our network development this year, with services launched to Los Angeles last month and flights commencing to Dallas in December 2014," Hogan said.
"San Francisco is another strong addition and provides our first direct link to northern California."
The aircraft on the Abu Dhabi-San Francisco route has been leased from Etihad’s partner Jet Airways but will be operated by Etihad crew.
