Etihad to begin codesharing with China Southern Airlines
Gulf carrier Etihad Airways has joined hands with Asia’s largest airline China Southern Airlines for a new codeshare alliance.
China Southern’s ‘CZ’ code will be placed on Etihad Airways’ daily flights to Beijing, Shanghai and Chengdu, and offers its customers through ticketing to more than 100 global destinations worldwide via Etihad’s Abu Dhabi hub.
"The codeshare partnership with China Southern Airlines is a significant milestone in the airlines’ network development strategy and a key component of its footprint in the China market. This is a further example of our strategy of working with partners to extend our reach, and provide more options," said Mohammad Al Bulooki, Etihad Airways executive vice president, commercial.
China Southern becomes Etihad’s 53rd codeshare partner.
"We are excited about the new partnership with Etihad Airways, which will further strengthen the global network of both airlines and provide increased benefits to all our passengers," said Zhang Lin, China Southern Airlines senior management on international cooperation.
The two airlines said they are currently planning a reciprocal loyalty partnership which would allow passengers of both carriers to earn and redeem points on flights across each carrier’s network.
