Europe won’t stop visa-free travel for Americans
The European Union says it won’t end visa-free access for America travelers after all.
Ending visa-free entry for US citizens was a real possibility due to the US dragging its feet on allowing reciprocal visa-free travel to citizens of EU nations Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Poland and Romania.
That prompted EU lawmakers to pass a non-binding resolution calling for the EU commission to impose a requirement for visas for US travelers.
The European Commission said ‘contacts have been re-launched with the new U.S. administration’ to discuss the standoff.’
EU Migration Commissioner Dimitris Avramopoulos said: “The European Union will always choose engagement, commitment, and passionate diplomacy over any form of unilateral retaliation,”
The US government still hasn’t lifted the visa requirements for citizens of the EU countries, and that is unlikely to change under the Trump Administration.
