Eurostar considers London to Bordeaux route

Monday, 17 Mar, 2016 0

Eurostar is considering a new service from London to Bordeaux taking less than four hours.

The rail company said the first-ever direct trains from London to the city in south-west France could follow its upcoming Amsterdam service.

The new Amsterdam service is due to be available from 2017 following a new service to Marseilles, in the south of France, launched last summer.

The fast service to Bordeaux would be possible following the completion of a £6.1 billion high-speed link from Tours, south-west of Paris, to the city expected next year.

Nicolas Petrovic, Eurostar’s chief executive, told the Times: "There is nothing decided at the moment beyond Amsterdam, but we are looking at opportunities maybe in Bordeaux because there is a new high-speed line opening in 2017."

Eurostar reported that its profits had suffered last year, with a 38% fall to £34 million, due to the migrant crisis which led to a number of delays and cancellations.
