Eurostar’s Ebbsfleet International to compete head-on with South-east airports
High-speed train service Eurostar plans to open its Ebbsfleet International station on November 19.
The station is located just off the M25 and, according to Eurostar, will place it in direct competition with the South-east’s airports as well as offering travellers a greener option.
Ebbsfleet International will bring mainland Europe closer for the 10 million people in the catchment area of the station.
Eurostar is planning to provide parking for up to 2,500 cars within five minutes’ walk of the check-in gates. Daily parking will cost £11.50 but Business Premier travellers and Carte Blanche frequent traveller cardholders will be eligible for free parking for trips of up to four days.
Eurostar has joined forces with other rail operators to offer free travel on any South-eastern train service to local rail stations near Ebbsfleet International or to Ashford International. Passengers will also be offered free travel on the Fastrack bus service that connects local stations to Ebbsfleet, as well as Bluewater shopping centre.
The journey time from Ebbsfleet to Paris is just over two hours and Brussels is one hour 41 minutes. The plan is to operate seven trains a day from Ebbsfleet International to Paris and five to Brussels.
