A Seatrade Insider report says that former Carnival Australia president Gavin Smith will co-chair the annual Jetset Travelworld Group cruise consortium conference with chief executive Michael Reed at The Sebel Pier One Sydney Hotel August 15-16.

Smith joined JTG, a leading travel agency network with around 665 centres throughout Australia, last month as gm product and business development.

Reed has revealed that the company intends to expand its activities in the cruise market and plans to have a cruise strategy in place by the end of the year.

The keynote speaker at this month’s conference is Australian social analyst Mark McCrindle of McCrindle Research.

‘He will look at what is driving the growth of the cruise market in this country and discuss future developments,’ a JTG spokesman said.
