Ex-Quest boss starts web destination venture
Former Quest Travel managing director Dave Simmons has re-emerged with an online destination-based travel search engine.
Global Travel Market launched a dedicated bookable Australia site last month which will be followed by destination dedicated sites for Asia, Spain, ski, Florida, Caribbean, Britain and Dubai.
The first site – www.australiatravelmarket.com – claims to have generated more than £40,000-worth of business for Ebookers, Opodo and Travelbag since its launch, excluding accommodation and car hire bookings.
The site includes a Flight Price Index which monitors international flights to Australia and their prices as well as charting and predicted booking patterns. It aims to become the definitive source of information on flight trends to Australia.
An international flight fare table has also been created for the next 12 months.
Content rich editorial is being provided by guide book publisher Lonely Planet.
A statement said: “In creating this destination dedicated search engine concept, Simmons has addressed booking pattern changes of the independent traveller, all of whom do not have the same requirements – some like to book elements through a tour operator, others like to book a few components direct prior to departure, whilst others like to research activities before they leave, booking them on arrival, all of which can take a long time.”
