Expedia launching loyalty scheme in India
Online travel giant Expedia will roll out a loyalty scheme for the India market and plans to hire more than 400 new staff.
Expedia’s Asia managing director Vikram Malhi said it will be launched later this year to retain customers in a highly competitive market.
"We have recently launched loyalty programmes in Japan and Singapore and we will launch it in India in fourth quarter of 2015. This will allow Indian customers to earn and redeem points for transactions on Expedia and avail of special deals and discounts," he said.
"Other companies in the space are quite aggressive in discounting but I do not think this is sustainable in the long run. We are not chasing market share and instead we are investing in products and technology features."
Malhi said Expedia will invest heavily in its mobile app.
Mobile now accounts for about half of India’s e-commerce travel market.
Up to 400 new staff will be hired over the next two years in research, product development and sales, Malhi said.
