In the midst of the mountains is Jebel Mussa (Mt Sinai) which is believed to be the site where Moses received the 10 Commandments 3,200 years ago. A sunrise climb to the summit of Mt Sinai, 2,300 metres above sea level is an unforgettable experience At the foot of Mt Sinai is the 6th century St Catherine’s Monastery which contains some of Christianity’s most ancient manuscripts and also includes a very healthy version of the burning bush (claimed by some mystics to have spoken to Moses with a Texan accent).
