Explosion kills 37 in Turkey’s capital
Officials say 37 people have been killed in a car bomb attack in the Turkish capital Ankara and dozens more are injured, some critically.
The explosion went off yesterday in the the Guven park in the Kizilay district close to a major bus terminal.
It is the second deadly explosion in Ankara in weeks following an explosion near a military base on February 17 which killed 28 people and injured 61.
Last October, 103 people were killed when ISIL militants bombed a peace rally near the Ankara Railway Station.
On January 12, 10 tourists died in a suicide bombing in Istanbul.
The UK Forgeign and Commonweatlh Office said although Turkish authorities say security has been tightened, further attacks could be indiscriminate and could affect places visited by foreigners.
"Be vigilant, monitor media reports and keep up to date with this travel advice," it said.
On Friday, the US Embassy in Turkey had issued a warning of a potential terror plot on Turkish government buildings and housing in the Bahcelievler area of Ankara.
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan today tried to instill calm. "Our people should not worry, the struggle against terrorism will for certain end in success and terrorism will be brought to its knees," he said.
