Extension of the Eurail Selectpass announced
The Eurail Group has announced the introduction of the Eurail ‘Selectpass’, which will be valid for travel in a selection of 4 or 5 European countries.
The extended range will replace the Europass, which was available for a few countries only and which will be discontinued as from 2003. The new Eurail Selectpass range will be offered for traveling 5, 6, 8, or 10 days during a 2 month period. For the 5-country pass, 15 days of travel will also be offered.
With the Eurail Selectpass, the Netherlands, Belgium and Luxembourg (Benelux) are considered as one country, Monaco is considered part of France and Liechtenstein considered part of Austria. Eurail said this actually allows for travelling in more countries than indicated, and allows for easy planning and flexible travelling.
Commenting on the new pass, Managing Director of Eurail Group GIE Erik Mollén said: “Over the years, more and more overseas visitors have become experienced in travelling Europe, and now want to explore parts of Europe in more detail, whereas only a few years back, most travellers were wanting to travel the whole of Europe. With this new offer, Eurail is responding to the growing demand for rail passes to suit this travel pattern.”
The new pass range will be offered through the Eurail Group’s Sales Agents as from 2003. Details of the extension of the Eurail Selectpass range will be published on the official Eurail website www.eurail.com during September 2002.
