FAA to revoke Nantucket Express’ air carrier certificate

The Federal Aviation Administration plans to revoke the license of a small charter airline for operating uncertified planes with unqualified pilots.

Nantucket Express has 15 days to respond to its allegations or its air carrier certificate will be revoked.

The company was involuntarily closed down last summer but currently still holds a valid air carrier certificate.

The FAA said the carrier’s actions were ‘careless or reckless’ for using unqualified pilots ‘by either not being listed on the air carrier certificate as an authorized pilot or by failing to pass a required knowledge test and competency and flight checks,’ it said.

They flew three aircraft not listed on its air carrier certificate on 76 flights between March 2015 and September 2017.

The FAA further alleged 39 of these of those flights didn’t have the required safety inspections.
