Sacramento offers families the perfect city break that everyone will enjoy.

There is Sacramento Zoo and Fairytale town for younger kids, plus white-water rafting and over 30 museums suitable for teens.

The city’s excellent food scene also allows the whole family to enjoy meals of tasty farm fresh food together.

For younger kids

The perfect day out for young children, at Fairytale Town kids can climb a treehouse, capture a castle, sail the seven seas on a pirate ship, and more. Visitors can interact with Mary’s little lambs, Peter rabbit, the three little pigs plus many more animals in the park’s farm. There’s also gardens to explore as well as live theatre performances that are perfect for children.

The Sacramento Zoo is also a great day out for families with younger children, located in picturesque Land Park. Highlights at the zoo include opportunities to feed the giraffes, watch the primates swing, and hearing the roar of a lion.

For teens

For families with older kids, there are options for fun that the whole family can be included in both inside and outside. Discover a variety of outdoor activities to satisfy any adventurous teens. White water rafting is a popular activity as Sacramento sits at the confluence of the American and Sacramento rivers. The American River is perfect for all abilities. OARS is based under an hour outside of Sacramento and offers half-day trips to two-day getaways where guests can camp by the river.

The Crocker Art Museum is a cultural hub for Sacramento, it is known for its collection of California Impressionist art, German drawings and everything ranging from contemporary to antiquity, so teens are sure to find something that will spark their interest.

Family meal

Whether visitors want to dine with the whole family on one of Sacramento’s large patios, or just to grab a gelato and wander through the tree-lined streets, there are endless options. The city’s farm-to-fork restaurants are renowned for fresh and healthy cuisine, for both adults and kids. Federalist Pizza is a guaranteed crowd pleaser offering great pizza, relaxed vibes, and California craft beer. Camden Spit and Larder is a London inspired restaurant with food made using the ingredients from Sacramento’s surrounding agricultural land, perfect for an evening meal with the whole family.
