Fantasy in lights powered by wind power credits starting Dec. 1

This holiday season marks the 16th Annual Fantasy in Lights at Callaway Gardens – featuring eight million lights stretching more than six and a half miles long, creating more than a dozen larger-than-life holiday scenes. Beginning Dec. 1, Callaway Gardens will further reflect its commitment to connecting man with nature and to sustainability of natural resources by compensating every kilowatt of power with green power – a renewable energy resource where wind power credits offset conventional electricity. Lighting up Pine Mountain, Ga., Fantasy In Lights runs Nov. 16 through Dec. 30.

Visitors embark on the “Jolly Trolley” or drive through the lighted scenes in their vehicles to enjoy more than a dozen scenes including Snowflake Valley, a winter wonderland filled with enormous snowflakes and thousands of white lights, Magical Christmas Garden with a 24-foot wreath entrance and Santa’s Workshop, showcasing animated lighted versions of Santa’s elves busy making all the toys for the big night. Two spectacular scenes are set apart from the drivable route and incorporate narration, music and choreographed lights to tell the story of ‘Twas the Night Before Christmas and The Nativity on Robin Lake Beach. Ninety-nine percent of the frames used to create the scenes in Fantasy in Lights are custom designed and built just for Callaway Gardens, taking 3,900 man-hours to install.

Families return every year to experience the Christmas Village, an indoor shopping and dining venue that includes opportunities to visit Santa Claus and roaming Fantasy in Lights characters. Inside the Village, guests have the opportunity to shop for specialty food items from the Callaway Gardens Country Store, unique gift nostalgic toys from simpler times and an assortment of holiday ornaments. An array of Georgia crafters will be on-hand making and selling their wares.

Callaway Gardens, a premier travel and meeting destination in the South, is owned by the non-profit Ida Cason Callaway Foundation (ICCF). Within the 13,000 acres of Callaway Gardens is a resort, preserve, a cumulative 100,000 square feet of meeting space, 931 guest rooms, restaurants, shops, golf, tennis, fishing, shooting club, gardens, butterfly conservatory, horticultural center, chapel, inland beach, nature trails and additional attractions. The Southeast Tourism Society (STS) selected Fantasy in Lights at Callaway Gardens as one of the Top 20 Events in the Southeast for November 2007. Fantasy in Lights has also been recognized by the American Bus Association as one of the Top 100 Events in North America and by America’s Best and Top Ten as one of the Top Three Light Shows in America.
