FBI offers USD10K reward to stop Sea-Tac aircraft laser attacks
The FBI is offering a $10,000 reward to help nab the person(s) pointing lasers at jets around Seattle-Tacoma airport.
They say there has been a huge uptick in potentially dangerous laser pointing incidents near Sea-Tac Airport since the start of 2022.
As of early March 2022, at least 125 incidents were reported by pilots.
The Feds are now seeking the public’s help to catch the culprits
“We want people to know that this is not a fun prank, this is not a joke. This is something that could have serious consequences and we want people to keep an eye out on that in their neighborhoods,” Amy Alexander, public affairs officer with the Seattle FBI Office said.
Pointing lasers at planes is a federal offense.
“As the laser comes up toward these approaching aircrafts, it’s a huge glare through the windshield and its very distracting for the pilot and it can even damage their eye sight,” Alexander said.
FBI officials are dangling a $10,000 reward for information that leads to an arrest and conviction.
“We need the public’s eyes and ears to help us report incidence of this,” Alexander added.
