Kenya: Government says country is not at high risk of terrorism
Kenya has rushed to reassure visitors that the country is safe after the British Foreign and Commonwealth Office issue a warning to travellers on Wednesday.
As reported by News From Abroad, the FCO warned in its advice that there was a significant threat of terror and that British nationals in the country should be vigilant, particularly in public places frequented by foreigners such as hotels, restaurants, nightclubs and shopping malls. It is still less that four months after suicide bombers killed 16 people in an attack on a hotel in Mombasa.
However, the Kenyan government has stated that their country is no more dangerous in terms of terrorism than any other country, and said that the British advisory is “not exactly justified”. A spokesman said that all the necessary security systems were in place and that Kenya was still encouraging foreign tourists to visit.
