Ferry firm rides wave of flight chaos
Air travel disruption and two new Superferry vessels helped Stena Line grow its North Sea passenger numbers by 8.7% in 2010.
The ferry operator carried over half a million passengers last year – the highest number for three years since its Harwich-Hook of Holland operations went twice daily in 2007.
It said the new interest in ferry travel has been partly boosted by the ash cloud, strike and winter weather disruption to air travel.
The rail-and-sail sector saw the biggest increase, with Stena Line’s ‘dutchflyer’ product enjoying 35% growth year on year. Cars carried, meanwhile, only grew by 0.6%.
