Fight continues to save Australian Israel Tourist Office

At the Sydney Eastern Mediterranean Tourist Association function on Tuesday evening, David Beirman, current Director of the slated to be closed Israel National Tourist Office in Sydney, confirmed that a vigorous fight was taking place to save the office.

He said in his speech to the over 240 attendees, “a very hard fight was going on and I hope that this will not be the last time I will be standing at a function of this nature representing Israel”, which was met with enthusiastic applause from the industry representatives in attendance.

Iain Ferguson, the Chairman of EMTA also commented,  “not having the support and backing of a local Israel office in Australia will make selling Israel here very hard and could negate all the hard work and growth that had been enjoyed over recent years and in particular the success of so many tour operators taking on Israel product”.

In an interview after the function, David Beirman added “sadly it is 98% or 99% certain that the office will close”, but in his normal enthusiastic manner added, “that means that there is a 1% or 2% chance it would not!”.

He added, “the tremendous response from the industry in Australia at a range of levels to the CEO and senior management of the Israel Tourism has most certainly surprised them, but in reality I am not very hopeful”.

Iain Ferguson urged the Australian travel industry to make their views felt to the Israel Tourism head office in Israel.
