Fiji celebrated a banner year for tourism in 2024, welcoming over one million visitors – the highest number ever recorded.

It welcomed 982,938 tourists via air and 81,854 passengers on cruise ships.

Tourism officials say the success of the cruise industry has been especially notable and has created immense economic value across the island nation.

It expects further growth of the sector during 2025 with new itineraries scheduled to include Fiji, such as Princess Cruises 13-day Fiji & South Pacific and Celebrity Edge returning to the South Pacific.

High-profile events also contributed to the record tourism numbers.

This included the Corona World Surf League (WSL) Fiji Pro, the second Spartan Fiji Trifecta, and the first-ever NRL match held in Fiji.

Fiji welcomed 13.1% more tourists from the UK in 2024.

Operator First Class Holidays reported a 118% increase in room nights booked in Fiji from 2023 to 2024, marking their best year yet and Anzcro UK saw a 50% increase in 24/25 sales to Fiji.

The Moana effect continues to spur demand.

South Pacific experts Turquoise Holidays is seeing an 8% increase in awareness and enquiries from families looking to travel to Fiji since Moana 2 aired in UK.

National carrier, Fiji Airways, has two new routes, including its longest nonstop service from Dallas Fort Worth in Texas to Nadi (commenced December 24).

Departures from Cairns Australia direct to Nadi, launch in April 2025.

The Dallas-Nadi service flies three times per week on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays.

It will allow for an easy connection between London, Dallas and Fiji thanks to Fiji Airways codeshare partners; American Airlines and British Airways.

Tourism Fiji CEO, Brent Hill said: “We are thrilled to have welcomed over a million visitors but we are also focused on ensuring that this growth remains sustainable.”

“Our priority is to attract tourists who not only appreciate our stunning landscapes and culture but also contribute to a high-yield tourism sector.”
