Fiji lifts embargo but state of emergency remains

Fiji has lifted its embargo on passengers arriving by air but a state of emergency remains in place.

A tropical depression continues to hit Fiji with strong winds, thunderstorms and periods of heavy rain causing localised flooding.

But from yesterday afternoon, visitors were allowed back in.

The Government said international visitors to Fiji must also be aware that while every effort is being made to minimize inconvenience, services and transportation within Fiji are not as yet at their optimum levels.

Domestic air services between Suva and Nadi are operating but services to the outer islands including Vanua Levu, Taveuni and Savusavu have been cancelled.

Inter-island cruise and ferry services to the Mamanuca and Yasawa Islands are operating on a limited basis to transport guests to Nadi and Nadi International Airport.

A tropical cyclone warning is still in place for Fiji but the extreme weather was expected to have hit its worst  before gradually improving until Wednesday.
