Fiji tourism on track
The Fiji Visitors Bureau says in the Fiji Times that Fiji tourism is on track with its recovery program after a good performance last month and the Bureau is confident of continuing the trend that will take them closer to the goal of transforming local tourism into a billion dollar industry.
Bureau chief executive Viliame Gavoka said in January, 35,000 tourists visited Fiji and they hoped to increase the figure to 50,000 tourists a month by June.
He said arrival figures indicated the confidence of visitors was restored with after the military takeover, visitor arrivals dropping as foreign governments issued negative travel advisories warning tourists not to visit.
In an attempt to rebuild Fiji tourism, the bureau and the Tourism Action Group (TAG) launched promotional campaigns in Australia and New Zealand to restore confidence, with all accommodation prices and airfares slashed by up to 40% to facilitate the industry’s restoration.
Since the campaigns were launched in January, travel advisories have been reviewed and downgraded with tourist arrivals gradually improving.
Mr Gavoka also said phase two of the campaign was launched in New Zealand on Wednesday and in Australia this weekend.
