Fiji Travel Advisory at Level 3 and Vanautu at Level 1?
TravelMole subscriber Samantha Muspratt, today made a very very interesting comment in TravelMole’s comments section, saying and asking the question:
“Fiji’s coup shed no blood, there was no violence – yet it had a Level 4 warning and is now at a Level 3??
“Vanuatu’s travel warning is still at the lowest level of 1 despite violence and deaths!” “Can someone decipher the logic please?”
The Mole does not think that anyone including Samantha is advocating that Vanuatu’s Travel Advisory level be increased, but its Level 1 rating does appear to demonstrate some inconsistencies by DFAT that Vanuatu’s is so low and Fiji’s still so high, in particular in consideration of the current circumstances in each country.
There was no bloodshed in Fiji, the Fijian Government has demonstrated a clear committment and action in terms of recovery and all is very peaceful and quiet in Fiji – I have been there and so have many thousands of Aussies and Kiwis – they can also prove it!
Sadly, there have been deaths and violence in Vanautu, but the situation is clearly under control with life returning to normal.
Nevertheless the DFAT Travel Advisory for Vanautu remains at Level 1 and all things being equal that is the right level for it.
What this does highlight though is that Level 3 is still way too high for Fiji and should immediately be adjusted and downgraded by DFAT to at least Level 2 if not Level 1, which is where it now should be.
