Financial woes keep more Brits at home
A third of Brits are spending their main holiday this year on home soil, according to research from motoring and leisure association CSMA club.
Its online poll of 3,006 UK Holiday Makers earlier this month, carried out by Opinium Research, revealed that tighter holiday budgets, flight upsets, and the Eurozone’s debt crisis are all persuading holidaymakers to stay closer to home.
It also found that:
23% are taking more UK breaks this year than last year
11% have been deterred from going abroad because of the current financial instability in Europe
6% are worried about the risk of a repeat of the ash cloud problems
7% are put off because of the ongoing threat of airline strikes
25% are staying in the UK in order to keep a close eye on their money.
When asked which countries they were avoiding, Greece came top, with 13% of holidaymakers saying they had fears over its financial instability.
