Finnair heading down under
Finnair will launch daily fifth freedom flights to Melbourne from next autumn via Bangkok.
This will mark its first destination in Australia.
The route will be flown daily on Airbus A350 aircraft from Bangkok, which connects Melbourne directly to Finnair’s European network via Helsinki.
“By connecting Helsinki and Melbourne, two cities on opposite sides of the world, we can offer a truly unique bridge between the northern and southern hemispheres,” said Christine Rovelli, Chief Revenue Officer at Finnair.
“We expect that this new route will appeal to travellers from Europe heading to Australia, as well as Australians exploring northern Europe.”
Melbourne Airport CEO Lorie Argus hailed the new route.
“These new flights will help bring more families together, as well as bringing thousands of extra people to our state each week, which will help support Victoria’s tourism, dining and hospitality venues,” she said.
Finnair joins other global carriers like Emirates, Qatar Airways and Turkish Airlines to pick Melbourne as its first destination in Australia.
Visit Victoria CEO Brendan McClements also lauded the new flights, and give the Victoria tourism industry a timely boost.
Flights to Melbourne are now available to book on Finnair’s website.
