‘Fireball’ crash closes Southend Airport

London Southend Airport is closed until further notice after a fiery plane crash on Sunday.

The airport suspended all traffic in and out of the airport with flights scheduled flights rerouted elsewhere.

It advised passengers to confirm flight details with their airline.

It hasn’t said when it will likely reopen to commercial flights.

Easyjet confirmed its services are cancelled until further notice.

The airline flies from Southend to destinations such as Alicante, Faro and Palma.

Netherlands based medevac operator Zeusch Aviation confirmed its plane crashed just after takeoff at the airport.

It said in a statement: “Flight SUZ1 was involved in an accident.  We are actively supporting the authorities with the investigation and will provide updates.  Our thoughts are with everyone who has been affected.”

It is still unknown how many people were on the plane.

The UK air accident agency is investigating.
