Five injured after roof ripped off tour bus
Five people, including a newly wed, were injured after a London tourist bus had its roof ripped off as it crashed into a tree.
The double-decker Golden Tours bus was near Russell Square when it hit an overhanging branch yesterday afternoon
Laurence Hopkins from the Universities and Colleges Employers Association told the Guardian: "Glass from the two windows at the front came away and some debris flew past from the bus. It seemed to be a tree branch that ripped the roof clean off, which was amazing to me.
"It’s especially lucky no one passing by was hurt because the roof came down on to the street.
The London fire brigade confirmed that five people have been taken to hospital. One was a bride who married just days ago.
Andy Bassom, transport manager at Golden Tours, said an investigation was under way into how the accident happened, which would include looking at the on-board CCTV.
The operator has 40 buses taking tours around London, he said.
