Flair Airlines could be closed down over foreign ownership
Edmonton based ultra low-cost carrier Flair Airlines could get grounded definitely for not being Canadian enough. Flair is skirting ownership requirements and is seeking an exemption.
It could see the airline’s operating licence suspended on May 3 as it is controlled by a US-based investor. Transport Canada determined in a preliminary review it ‘may not be controlled in fact by Canadians and may, therefore, not be ‘Canadian,’ as defined in the Canada Transportation Act.”
Miami-based 777 Partners has a 25% stake in the company but holds 60% of seats on the airline’s board.
