Flight from London City lands in wrong country
A flight from London City to Dusseldorf in Germany landed in Edinburgh by mistake after pilots were given the wrong flightpath.
Passengers were then forced to wait on the tarmac for more than two hours before the flight continued to Dusseldorf, according to the BBC.
The flight was being operated by German firm WDL Aviation under a wet-lease arrangement with BA Cityflyer. BA said it was trying to find out why WDL filed the wrong fight path.
"We have apologised to customers for this interruption to their journey and will be contacting them all individually," BA said in a statement.
BA declined to say how many passengers were affected by the mistake, but said it was only ‘a small number’. The flight was operated by a BAe 146 aircraft, which carries a maximum of 112 passengers.
WDL said: "At no time has the safety of passengers been compromised. We flew the passengers on the flight with number BA3271 to Dusseldorf after the involuntary stopover in Edinburgh."
