Flight to Dubai diverted after alleged hijack attempt
A flight to Dubai from the Bangladeshi capital Dhaka was forced to make an emergency landing after a man allegedly tried to storm the cockpit, according to local media.
The Biman Bangladesh Airlines’ Boeing 737, carrying 142 passengers, was surrounded by security forces when it landed at Shah Amanat International Airport in the Bangladeshi coastal city of Chittagong.
All passengers disembarked safely from flight BG147.
Bangladeshi forces fired at the suspect after he shot at them when they asked him to surrender, army Major General Motiur Rahman reportedly told local media.
He said that the suspect was carrying a pistol, but did not say where the shooting took place.
The suspect reportedly died before reaching hospital.
The UK Foreign Office updated its advice late on Sunday night to say: "Chattogram airport has now re-opened following the earlier security incident. Some travel disruption is still possible. You should monitor airport information for updates."
