Flights cancelled as Typhoon Haiyan hits
Philippine Airlines has cancelled a number of flights today because of Typhoon Haiyan, known locally as Yolanda.
It has cancelled flights on 25 internal routes and has also cancelled services to and from Manila, Kuala Lumpur and Singapore, and from Cebu to Narita.
However, other international flights are operating as normal.
Passengers with flights to typhoon-affected areas may rebook their flights within the next 30 days from the original flight date, with rebooking fees and fare difference waived.
Typhoon Haiyan has been battering the central Philippines with sustained winds of 146mph.
Based on initial estimates, meteorologists believe this could be the most powerful storm ever to make landfall.
Authorities have warned that more than 12 million people are at risk, including residents in the country’s second largest city of Cebu. It is not expected to directly hit the capital Manila further north.
The storm has already forced millions of people to seek shelter across 20 provinces, many of them still trying to recover from a powerful earthquake last month.
