Flights were re-routed yesterday after a tanker carrying propane gas caught fire, shutting the M56 motorway near Manchester.
Firefighters who were tackling the fire evacuated motorist from nearby vehicles.
Manchester Airport said there was no flight disruption but that air traffic control was re-routing planes away from the area.
