Flood disaster in Fiji
A state of disaster has been declared in Fiji after flooding and landslides killed at least six people and left around 3,500 people in temporary shelters.
The worst affected regions were in the west, including Fiji’s largest island of Viti Levu.
A travel alert for Fiji was issued yesterday by the Foreign Office following the severe flooding caused by heavy rainfall on the Pacific island.
Some tourists are believed to have been left stranded, unable to reach their hotels as roads have been closed.
Local authorities had imposed a 12-hour curfew to restrict movement in certain towns and cities in these affected areas.
Heavy rains are forecast to continue for several days.
The FCO said travellers should continue to monitor the latest situation on the Fiji Meteorological Service website, in local newspapers and on Radio Fiji 2 on 105 FM.
Suzanne Vermigle, Kuoni head of operations, said there are no Kuoni customers currently in resort.
She said ground agents in resort had confirmed yesterday that the situation is improving, so are hopeful there will be no further disruption.
"Kuoni is monitoring the situation with ground agents and hotel partners locally and will take all necessary action to ensure clients safety, and will update this information should the situation not improve," she said.
