Florida visitation continues upward swing

Sunday, 31 Aug, 2004 0

Both Orlando and Fort Lauderdale tourism officials report new visitor records:

• Orlando expects to have a record-high 48 million visitors by the end of the year, a 6.7% increase over 2003, according to the Orlando/Orange County Convention & Visitors Bureau.

• Greater Fort Lauderdale hotels had its best July performance ever with an occupancy rate of over 70% for the first time ever, an increase of 10.2% over the same time last year.

Orlando previously set a record in 2003 with nearly 45 million visitors. Current trends point to a 5.4% increase in 2005.

The CVB says growth in 2004 is expected to be very broad based with increases in all major categories, including day visitors, overnight visitors, business and leisure travelers.

Fort Lauderdale had a record hotel occupancy of 91% last February.
