Fly to Venice with Emirates

Saturday, 26 Apr, 2007 0

From as far back as 1587 the cities of Dubai and Venice have been linked and it was in this year that the Venetian pearl trader Gaspero Balbi wrote about Dubai and the number of Venetians that were working there in the pearl industry.

When Emirates begins its non-stop service between Dubai and Venice on 1st July, 2007, the two cities will once again be linked, with the service initially operating five times a week (on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday) and will become a daily service from September 2007.

An Emirates delegation, led by Keith Longstaff, Senior Vice President, Commercial Operations Europe, was in Venice to introduce the Dubai-based airline’s award-winning product and service to over 650 travel and cargo agents from across Italy and Slovenia.

Keith Longstaff said: “Our non-stop service will connect our extensive network to Venice and the surrounding area, including the Italian cities of Verona, Trieste, Florence and Bologna; as well as the neighbouring country of Slovenia.

“Venice is a popular tourism destination and an important gateway in northern Italy for commerce. Our new service will contribute to Italy’s many flourishing small and medium-sized businesses by providing increased access to Venice from major other cities around the globe via Dubai.”

Emirates is activating a number of initiatives to promote the new route; an outdoor and press advertising campaign, consisting of a striking image of a historic Venetian sailing ship, will be rolled out across the network in May, targeting the main magazines, newspapers and trade press.

Massimo Massini, Manager Italy, Iberian Peninsula & States of the Former Yugoslav Republic, said: “The opening of Venice represents a strategic gateway for Emirates thanks to the catchment area which covers all of the eastern regions, in particular Veneto and Friuli where there are a number of important Italian industries.”

Italy is an important market for Emirates which has seen a growth of 31 percent in passenger numbers in 2006 over the previous year; the majority of Emirates’ passengers travelling to Italy come from: Australia, UAE, South Africa, India, Philippines, Japan, New Zealand and South Korea.

The service between Venice and Dubai will be operated with an Airbus A330-200 offering 27 Business class seats, and 251 Economy; plus 13 tonnes of bellyhold space for cargo.

Emirates currently serves Italy with daily flights to Rome and Milan with some of the world’s most technologically advanced aircraft including the Boeing 777-300 and Airbus A330-200 in a three class configuration, ensuring every passenger in every cabin enjoys the Emirates award winning service, comfort, luxury and attention.
